This week we "celebrated" Groundhog's Day. I mean... do we really celelbrate it? No. We do not. But what if we did?! What if we celebrated it like the movie with BIll Murray where we llive ourt the day as though we will have to repear it again and again, so we have to make it a really good one?
I, for one, love this idea!
Then, I found myself asking these 2 questions:
What would I do wth this day if I had to repeat it over and over again?
What would I have to do to get OUT of this day? What lesson would I need to learn to be able to move on?
That brought about some really good thoughts about how I spend my days and what I'd like to do better on.
I'd want to spend more time outside and more time connecting with people I love, whether it is in conversation or even texts.
I'd like to become a better listener. I talk a lot and sometimes I need to shut my trap and listen a little more!
Then I thought about the fact that many of us have things we HAVE to do on a daily basis. We can't actually skip work or doctors appointments or taking our kids to dance lessons. So how to we add more meaning into our everyday lives?? We don't need Groundhog's day to do it. What if we just did this every day? Imagine what your life would look like if you infused al ittle more meaning into your day-to-day routine?
So I brainstormed some ideas and here's what I've got for you:
15 ways to Add More Meaning to Your Everyday Life!
Practice gratitude - out loud, in your mind, or journal it! Doesn't matter. Just do it.
Ask people deeper questions other than "whats up?" or "how was your day?” Try something like "what was something out of the ordinary today?” “did anyone or anything make you laugh?”
Use people's names more. It gives you a more personal connection.
Listen with intention....not to repsond. Really listen to undertstand someone better, without an agenda.
Look for color. Chose a color - maybe one that is not common in nature and be on the lookout for it so that when you find it, its likea little surprise and you've won!
Savor your food. Don't rush. Enjoy it! Chose your favorite food for breakfast, lunch, or dinner and really enjoy it!
Listen to your current favorite song. Loudly. Crank up the volume. Roll down the windows. And if you want a little extra, sing along or dance.
Do something for your future self. Set up your coffee for the next morning. Put a littel chocolate on your pillow in the morning so that when you come to bed you have a little treat, like on vacation.
Do something for a stranger. Acts of kindness for strangers give us a big happiness boost. Hold the door, pay a compliment, or cover someones order behind you in the drivethrough.
Send a text to a friend that you haven’t spoken to in a while. Simple. "Miss you." "Love you!" "Just wanted you to know I'm thinking about ya!"
Whistle or hum a song. We don't do this enough anymore and it put a little pep in our step!
Dance in the kitchen. Put on some Italian restaurant music and waltz around the kitchen... or whatever kind of dance you want to do.
Look in the mirror and wink at yourself. This is a fun one. Try it and let me know! 😜
Pause, take a deep breath, and notice the world around you. This mindful awareness can create result in peace, calm, awe, or gratitude. Just takes a moment.
Choose a word of the day that roots you in your meaning and then remind yourself throughout the day of that word: love, gratitude, joy, slowness, calm, peace, connection, community, courage, confidence, compassion, or anything of a positive nature!
You can do it! Chose one and try it out! And then you can slowly add a little more meaning to each day.
